A Linkedin series I started out of the blue (and why)

Season 2, episode 16

Welcome back.

I write this from San Francisco. I’m out here this week for some customer meetings, events, community stuff. You know, the usual SF trip these days.

I love a good series. It’s a great content strategy if you’re looking to hold yourself accountable, keep people engaged, bring people back, and just keep people on their feet wondering what’s to come next. As a viewer of content too, I also love when people share a “series.” Hey, it brings me back! to re-engage! It’s how you build community too (and if you know me… duh).

Let’s jump in.

Eight weeks ago, I started a Linkedin series where I would share 1 custom Slack emoji that everyone should have in their workspace. We all love a great custom emoji, and I also wanted to share the wealth. Sharing is caring has never been more true than in the context of Slack emojis. If you know, you absolutely most definitely know.

There was no rhyme or reason to what I was sharing, but it had to be a custom emoji. One that isn’t part of the ones made generally available that you’d on, for example, a mobile device. Custom only.

I try and diversify too, based on emoji type, theme, series, but also how someone would be feeling about something throughout the workday. The ‘everydayness’ of work and attaching an emoji onto all of those experiences. Fun times.

I’m sharing everything from dancing stick figures, to bufo series (unrelated to this post, but here’s a reference), to Taylor Swift, pretty much anything and everything. I’m trying to be as random as possible while also trying to be a bit relatable to the work experience. After all, it is Linkedin.

Here’s this week’s post. I chose an emoji from one of my favorite emoji series; the bear. This one is a bear who ‘cant even.’ We’ve all been there at work, when you just can’t even. This bear showcases this feeling brilliantly.

There are a few of these: a bear who is dancing, raising their hand, arms over head like they can’t take it anymore… all super relatable.

So why do I do this? I explained it somewhat at the beginning, but listen, I just want to bring joy to a platform that can sometimes feel like it has anything but that (on that note, search #weirdlinkedin hashtag; you won’t be disappointed).

I want to have a bit a fun on Linkedin (this is nothing new if you know me lol). And on that note, a lot of people use Slack, so I’m also providing my network with potentially new Slack emojis they can add to their instance. What’s not to love?

Again, no rhyme or reason for this except for, why not? It’s hopefully a little break in your feed to offer some levity and spark a lil joy. And I do them on Fridays, so on a day where hopefully people are happy and in a good mood anyway.

If you started a Linkedin series, what would it be about? Why?

Thanks for reading and for being here. I don’t take for granted that you care what I have to say. Or even if you don’t care, and you’re still here; thanks for being a fan anyway. ❣️
