We need to talk about these things

Cover letters are antiquated.

After all, recruiters spend an average of 6-7 seconds scanning a resume these days. Do we think they’re reading the hundreds of cover letters that would come along with those hundreds of resumes?

You won’t find me applying to a job requiring a cover letter. Sure, if you’re applying to a comms role, writer role, or something similar, yes, they’re going to want to see your writing, and likely some sample work. That’s different.

Recruiters and hiring managers should have plenty to work off of with the resume and a Linkedin profile. Let’s aim for efficiency.
