I went viral
Season 5, episode 5
…well at least I think I did. lol according to my regular numbers, I did. More on that in a sec.
Happy Friday, I hope you all have a nice commute to work, day at work, day off, day on vacation, whatever it might be. Have a good one. This week felt like it went by very slow, anybody else feel that way? Maybe I’m just trying to get through the roller coaster of weather patterns here in Chicago. One day I’m in shorts, another, in a jacket. Fun times. 🥴
Let’s dive in.
I was stunned by how much traction this video received.
If you’re just joining me here, you may not know that back in June of last year, I started posting videos. I initially started with a few on Tiktok, started cross-posting to YouTube, and then by the end of 2025, I started cross-posting to Instagram. I figured why not; let’s see how each platform performed.
This “viral” post, however, is specific to TikTok. Some fair traction on the other platforms, but nowhere near the engagement TikTok saw.
My videos started off as exclusively career, then started morphing into random WFH things, typing ASMR, coffee, breakfast, my dog (of course), and other millennial random things (I changed my username recently too, as a result; which almost makes me want to change the name of this newsletter to the same thing. Not sure yet).
Fast forward to 1.5wks ago and I start a series (on a whim) sharing super niche things I think about from time to time. Very random, a bunch of different cateogries of things, mostly nostalgia, but a series nonetheless.
Then I reach part 6 of series, which at the time of this newsletter, was 4 days ago. I talk about the card design choices we had when starting a game of Solitaire and how I would normally go for the fish design. Then I ask the audience which card design was their favorite, along with what some of their favorite Windows games were back in the day.
As you can image, when it comes to nostalgia, millennials (and the general population I think) is locked in. I expected some traction but most definitely not what it has turned into. Part 3 of the series also has strong traction too; where I talk about the signatures and names of past students, inside the front cover of the textbook, who had your textbook before you. Super niche, but also super relatable.
Anyway, this is wild. 10 months into posting videos and I’m still not used to it believe it or not. I’m still experimenting with different ideas and topics. What I do know is that nostalgia hits hard, esp the deep cuts. People want to feel that sense of “I had that experience too.” Or “what a crazy time that was.” Or “Wow, I have never had an original thought, have I?”
What are some super niche things you think about from time to time?
Thanks for reading and for being here. I don’t take for granted that you care what I have to say. Or even if you don’t care, and you’re still here; thanks for being a fan anyway. ❣️
