You are your own Creative Director
Season 3, episode 10
Effective immediately, I have no idea what day it is.
That is, until January 1st. Then we’re back to normal.
Cue the holiday blur in between Christmas and the new year.
This is my final newsletter of 2025, and the season finale of Season 3. Next time you hear from me, it’ll be a new year, new season, and the perfect time for something new and fresh.
2025 was a year! A part of me feels like I’ve been jolted back to 2014 (mostly because I went back to editing some of my photos on VSCO. What else is new?).
I sold my condo and went back to renting. (The better option, IMO)
I, with hesitation, started posting video content on TikTok and Youtube.
I re-joined Twitter, only to tweet, not to post.
I officiated my first wedding, which happened to be my sister’s wedding.
I hit 4 years at Slack, my longest tenure at a job ever.
I made the tough decision to depart Slack
I continued my silly lil posting on Linkedin
I said yes to a new job (more on that soon)
And this just happened a few days ago, but it was pretty impactful. Did you ever rearrange your room as a kid? I did. And doing it as an adult brings that same sense of pride and renewed energy. Anyway, I suggest rearranging your space. Do it. Creating a new environment for yourself works wonders. (I’m referring mostly to my desk setup. It’s now on the other end of my apartment, facing a window. So much better!)
2025 was great; I’m looking forward to what 2026 will bring.
I plan to continue my content creation journey; I’m getting more and more comfortable with it. Believe me though, I never thought I would put myself in front of the camera, let alone on multiple platforms. It just wasn’t my thing. But eventually, I left my ego at the door and forced myself to do something completely out of my comfort zone. And honestly? It really isn’t that bad. I’m building my own lil community in my own lil corner of the internet. It’s been fun to experiment new ways of delivering the videos, editing styles, and frequency. I’ve done a few series here and there, and I’ve even set some growth goals. It’s pretty cool to just let go and give yourself the creative freedom to just do it.
So that’s my charge to you: Just do it. Just start. Like I shared on Linkedin recently, just start a newsletter or something. Use the creative outlet you have to do something that is 100% you. Your voice, your tone, your style, you approach. That’s what has kept me consistent on this platform and with my videos; they’re 100% me. I get to do whatever I want—that’s the best part! Be your own creative director.
Speaking of which, as a result of posting that on Linkedin, I welcomed some new subscribers. Hello! And welcome. I know the last thing you probably need is another email in your inbox, so I don’t take for granted that you have subscribed to my newsletter. Thank you. Glad you’re here. (speaking of email, did you hear Google is rolling out the ability to change your email address while retaining all history and data??? wild)
Anyway—
I conclude this week’s newsletter with a photo representing the last 4 years of my career. (Today is my official last day at Slack)
This thing has been all over the world with me; it has visited many conferences, met many people, has seen an acquisition, has had many long days, many overheating slow moments; it has seen it all (minus coffee spills, so yay me. I call that a victory). Thank you for an amazing 4yrs, Slack.
Happy New Year, and I’ll see you in 2026.
Thanks for reading and for being here. I don’t take for granted that you care what I have to say. Or even if you don’t care, and you’re still here; thanks for being a fan anyway. ❣️
